The following schemes are being implemented by the Office.
The aim and objective of the office of the Chief Inspector of Boilers & Factories is to ensure the safety of Boilers as well as Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and welfare of workers engaged in manufacturing sectors which constitute a “factory” and in factories or other sectors where a boiler is in use in the state. Alongwith enforcement of various provisions of safety and health and with an aim to achieve zero frequency rate of accidents and elimination the occurrence of occupational diseases like “silicosis” and others, loss of human life and damage to property. It is necessary to create awareness amongst stakeholders on matter of occupational safety and health vis-à-vis Acts, Rules and Regulations. It may be mentioned that occupational diseases are irreversible in nature, however preventable, as the saying goes “Prevention is better than cure” which is more relevant to these types of diseases.
It is a known fact that untimely death, illness, etc., of a bread earner bring sufferings to any such household vis-à-vis the society and as such affects the socio-economic development of the state and the country as a whole. Hence, timely prevention and detection of hazards is a must which could also be achieved through self volunteer if the same is awarded of as “safety works when we all work together” as such, more such awareness programme could be carried out to reach every nook and corner of the state and to the masses not only limited to workers alone. Further, in order that great enthusiasm amongst stakeholders is created, the office plans to hold competitive programmes in different activities to motivate the workers and award prizes to the winners.
The aim of this programme is to not only creating awareness among Industrial workers with regards to Occupational Safety and Health at workplace but this programme will motivate and promote Industrial Safety and health of the workers and also enhance their skill in their work-place. Therefore, creating awareness on health and safety in manufacturing units at different district of the state is of utmost important.
The office of the Chief Inspector of Boilers and Factories, Meghalaya, Shillong ensure safety and health in industrial units in the State. Alongwith enforcement of various provisions of safety and health, it is also necessary to create awareness about safety, health and amongst workers in the industrial sector to eliminate various occupational diseases, loss of human lives and damage to property. To increase awareness on safety, health and environment at workplace, it is necessary to create awareness amongst the workers in the factories by publication of pamphlets/brochures and circulation/distribution of the same to the workers.
