The Inspectorate of Boilers and Factories was established by amalgamation of the two separate Inspectorates (Factories and Boilers) during the erstwhile state of Assam after attaining statehood in 1972 and is one of the oldest Inspection Department of the state and headed by the Chief Inspector.

The main objectives of the office of the Chief Inspector of Boilers and Factories are:-

  • To ensure the smooth and safe running/operation of such an equipment “Boiler” (which is explosive in nature) so as to avoid any disaster.
  • To ensure and provide the required mitigational guidance and laid down safety measures and parameters along with technological advice to eliminate, reduce or prevent industrial accidents, hazards and occupational diseases through the enforcement of the concerned Acts, Rules etc.
